Former University of New Mexico standout wide receiver Dwight Counter capped his sensational rookie season in Arena Football2 with a record-setting performance in the league semifinals last week. Though the Rio Grande Valley Dorados championship quest came to an end with a 64-49 loss to the Memphis Xplorers on Saturday night, Counter did his part, finishing the game with 13 catches for an AF2 playoff record 200 yards and three touchdowns.
Counter led the Dorados in all-purpose yards during the regular season, averaging 142.4 per game. He tallied 89 receptions for 1,014 yards and 19 touchdowns, averaged 21.6 yards on 35 punt returns and 20.2 yards on four missed field goal returns. In the playoffs Counter was even better, leading the team with 23 catches for 448 yards (19.5 avg.) and nine scores. He also averaged 216 all-purpose yards in the three postseason games.
A three-time all-Mountain West Conference honoree for New Mexico from 1999-2003, Counter finished his career ranked in the top-10 in receptions (122 – 6th), receiving yards (2,101 – 4th) and receiving touchdowns (14 – T4th).
