Former University of New Mexico men’s basketball player Troy DeVries has signed a professional contract with BG Karlsruhe in Karlsruhe, Germany. BG Karlsruhe is a member of Germany’s First Division, the top basketball league in the country.

“I am extremely excited,” stated DeVries. “This is a blessing from God and a dream come true. It is going to be a great experience for my wife and I. The chance to play in the top league in Germany is going to be a valuable experience and I am very grateful for the opportunity.”

DeVries finished his career last season as the most accurate 3-point shooter in New Mexico history. He made 45.1% (147 of 326) in his 55-game Lobo career. His 48% career accuracy in conference games is a Mountain West Conference record. DeVries shot a salty 51.3% (41-80) from 3-pt. range this season in MWC competition.

DeVries led the MWC, averaging 2.82 treys a game, and was 8th nationally in percentage at 45.1%. He made a 3-pt. FG in 29 straight games, the second longest streak at UNM.

DeVries finished 5th on the UNM single-season list with 93 trifectas made, a figure that ranks No. 3 in MWC history. Despite playing less than two full seasons, DeVries tied Lamont Long for 9th place in career 3s at New Mexico with 147 made.

“We are really excited for Troy and his wife,” stated UNM head coach Ritchie McKay. “He will be able to continue his playing career, which is something he wanted to do. He is one of the hardest workers I have ever coached and will be an excellent addition for Karlsruhe.”

DeVries helped guide the Lobos to a 26-7 record last season, the second most wins in school history. UNM also captured the MWC Tournament championship and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1999.
