The Mountain West Conference has announced the 2005-06 league schedule for men’s basketball with the University of New Mexico slated to make four ESPN-affiliated telecasts. Gone are the late Monday night games schools played in the past. That has been replaced by a more fan-friendly format of games primarily being played on Wednesday and Saturday. The conference schedule is now 16 games with the addition of TCU.
The Lobos, 26-7 a year ago and winners of the MWC Tournament, will play two home games on ESPN2: Wednesday, Jan. 11 against TCU and Saturday, Feb. 4 versus Utah. UNM will also take part in a pair of ESPN+Plus telecasts: at Wyoming on Saturday, Jan. 14 and at home against San Diego State on Saturday, Feb. 25.
The 2005-06 season gets underway on Saturday, Nov. 5, when UNM entertains New Mexico Highlands in an exhibition game. The regular season begins Friday, Nov. 18, as New Mexico plays host to the Jim Thorpe Classic. The Lobos face South Carolina State and Ole Miss meets Southern Utah in the first day of the three-day, round-robin tournament.
One change in the non-conference schedule is the Alcorn State game is now Dec. 20. It was previously scheduled for Dec. 19.
