Lobos Fall to 25th After Two Rounds at NCAA Championships

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The University of New Mexico men’s golf team is in 25th place after two rounds of play at the 30-team NCAA Championships. The Lobos shot a 20-over par 300 in the second round on the par-70, 7,131-yard Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md., and is now 29-over par (289-300=589) for the tournament. Georgia holds the team lead at 2-under par and is nine strokes in front of second place Tennessee.

Individually the Lobos were led by senior Madalitso Muthiya who shot a 4-over par 74 in the second round. Muthiya is tied for 96th at 9-over par (75-74=149) for the tournament. Other Lobo results are senior Miguel Griego (71-76=147) and junior Spencer Levin (72-75=147) are tied for 70th at 7-over par, junior Jay Choi is tied for 84th at 8-over par (73-75=148) and junior Mark Anderson is tied for 148th at 16-over par (73-83=156).

The individual leader is Michael Putnam of Pepperdine at 6-under par (67-67=134) who leads Major Manning of Augusta State by one stroke.

The third round of the NCAA Championships continues tomorrow at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md., with a cut to 15 teams following the third round. UNM is scheduled to tee off in the third round at 11:15 a.m. (MST). For full results of the NCAA Championships visit www.golfstat.com.
