ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Lobo sophomore designated hitter Chris Carlson (Topeka, Kan. ) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Carlson, who boasts a 3.80 GPA in General Management, becomes the sixth Lobo in the history of the UNM baseball program to earn Academic All-America accolades.
Besides getting it done in the classroom, Carlson was one of the top sluggers in the Mountain West this season. He led the league in runs (66), slugging (.764) and walks (38), and was ranked in the top five in batting (.395), on-base percentage (.478), hits (87), doubles (24), homers (15) and total bases (168).
Carlson transferred to UNM after playing one season at Kansas State University. He started in 58 games this season, and was named Mountain West Co-Player of the Week March 14.
