SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Four Lobos were named to the All-Mountain West Conference baseball team, the league announced Tuesday night at its annual banquet. Sophomore outfielder/designated hitter Chris Carlson, senior outfielder Garrick Haymore, sophomore pitcher Danny Ray Herrera and freshman second baseman Jordan Pacheco earned All-MWC honors for the Lobos.
Carlson, a transfer from Kansas State University, led the Lobos in conference play with a .412 batting average and 42 RBI. He also slugged 10 homers and 10 doubles, and was second in the MWC with 91 total bases. In all games, Carlson leads the Mountain West in slugging (.736), runs (63) and walks (38), and is batting .387 with 14 homers and 75 RBI.
In his senior season, Haymore shined at the plate offensively. He was second on the team in league games with a .407 average and led the MWC with seven triples. The Sierra Vista, Ariz., product also hit four homers and drove in 27 runs in league action. Overall, Haymore is hitting .378 and is third in the nation with nine triples.
Herrera, a sophomore southpaw, led the Mountain West with six conference wins and defeated every MWC team. He also paced league pitchers with 69.2 innings on the mound. A native of Odessa, Texas, Herrera has won his last three decisions, including a three-hit complete game at BYU, which garnered him MWC Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Pacheco was one of only two freshman named to the 26-member all-conference team. The Albuquerque product was outstanding in his first season, batting .394 with 10 homers and 25 RBI in league games. Overall, Pacheco leads the Mountain West with 91 hits and a .414 batting average. He also ranks among the top five in runs (63), slugging (.723), homers (14) and total bases (159).
New Mexico, the No. 4 seed, begins Mountain West Tournament action with a first-round game against No. 5 Utah Wednesday at 3 p.m.
