ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After scoring just one run in the first two games of the series, San Diego State exploded for 28 runs and 28 hits to salvage the final game of the three-game set in a 28-10 victory over the New Mexico baseball team Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Isotopes Park. The Lobos (23-28, 13-14 Mountain West) still managed to win the series, two games to one. UNM returns to action with a single game at Texas Tech Monday, May 16 at 1 p.m. MT.
San Diego State (22-31, 16-11 MWC) started the scoring barrage early, scoring five runs in the top of the first. They scored three more in the second and eight in the third to go up 16-0 before the Lobos plated two in the bottom of the third to make it 16-2.
Chris Dabbs and Jeff Grady hit back-to-back solo homers in the fourth inning, both deep shots to left field, to cut the margin to 17-4. Daniel Stovall delivered an RBI single in the fifth to make it 17-5, but the Aztecs put the game out of reach with nine runs in the top of the sixth, taking a 26-5 advantage.
