ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Lobo sophomore Chris Carlson went 4-for-4 with two homers, four runs and six RBI, but it wasn’t enough as Utah topped the New Mexico baseball team, 20-13, Sunday afternoon on Youth Day at Isotopes Park. The Utes (17-24, 9-12 Mountain West) slugged 22 hits, including five doubles, a triple and two homers to complete the three-game sweep. The Lobos (19-26, 9-12 MWC) return to action Tuesday, May 3 to face Texas Tech in Lubbock at 5:30 p.m. MT.

Ute second baseman Doug Beck had a career day at the plate, hitting for the cycle while going 6-for-7 with nine RBI. He hit a two-run homer in the third to go along with two singles, two doubles and a triple.

The Ute offense scored four quick runs in the first, and held onto the lead the entire game behind another solid pitching performance, this time from lefty Jason Price. Price (3-7) scattered 12 hits in seven innings while surrendering nine runs on four strikeouts.

The Lobos supplied some power at the plate as well with 16 hits and three homers. UNM cut the initial four-run deficit to 4-3 with one run in the first and two in the second.

Utah then rattled off two runs in the third, three in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a commanding 13-3 advantage.

Ian Hollick nailed his third homer of the year in the fifth, a three-run blast that made it 13-6, but the Utes came right back with three more in the sixth.

The Lobos again used the long ball to try and creep back into the game, this time on a three-run homer by Carlson in the bottom of the sixth to cut it to 16-9. Utah answered the challenge, however, plating two in the seventh and two in the eighth to put the Utes up 20-9.Carlson delivered his second dinger of the game with a two-run knock in the eighth. UNM added two in the bottom of the ninth to make the final 20-13.

Darren Coltrinari (6-3), who entered the game a perfect 3-0 in Mountain West action, took the loss after allowing 12 runs on 11 hits in 4.2 innings of action.

At the plate, Jordan Pacheco went 3-for-5 with two runs, Garrick Haymore went 3-for-5 and Hollick went 2-for-4 with a season-best four RBI.
