ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Preseason All-American Trevor Crowe went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two homers and Arizona pounded out 18 hits as the No. 5 Wildcats topped the New Mexico baseball team, 14-3, Tuesday night at Isotopes Park. The Lobos, now 19-19 on the season, return to action April 22-24 to face UNLV in Las Vegas.
Arizona (27-11) jumped on the Lobos early as Crowe led off the game with a homer to right field. The Wildcats added two runs in both the second and third innings to go up 5-0.
The Lobos got on the board in the third as Ryan Barba nailed a triple to the right-center field wall, and then scored on a Jordan Pacheco groundout. Barba went 2-for-4 in the game.
The Wildcats responded with five runs in the fourth, including a three-run homer by Jordan Brown, to take a commanding 10-1 lead.
Barba scored again in the fifth on a Chris Carlson run-scoring single to left field. Along with Barba, Carlson also collected two hits.
The Lobos scored their final run as Tim Grady walked to lead off the sixth, and then scored from first on a Ian Hollick RBI triple.
Arizona, who scored single runs in the sixth and seventh, completed its scoring in the top of the ninth as Bill Rhinehart hit a two-run shot to center field to make it 14-3.
Karsten Gaarder (1-6) took the loss for UNM, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits in 3.1 innings of action. Eric Berger improved to 4-0 for Arizona, scattering four hits and two runs in four innings of relief.
