ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Senior outfielder Garrick Haymore drove in four runs and starting pitcher Jason Fernandez collected eight strikeouts to lead the New Mexico baseball team past Air Force, 7-4, Friday night at Isotopes Park. The Lobos improve to 17-18 overall, 7-6 in the Mountain West. The two teams will meet again Saturday at 6 p.m. Tomorrow’s game is Pack the Park night at Isotopes Park, with all tickets just $2.

The Lobos got on the board early as Haymore doubled in Jordan Pacheco in the bottom of the the first. Air Force (5-24, 0-10 MWC) answered with a run in the second to tie it at 1, but the Lobos responded with three in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-1 lead. Pacheco drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk and Haymore hit a single to right field, plating Ryan Barba and Matt Foote.

The Falcons trimmed the margin to 4-2 as Matt Ghigna delivered a run-scoring double in the third. Ghinga went 3-for-5 with a run scored.

UNM knocked out Air Force starter Mitch Brown in the fourth as he walked Chris Carlson with the bases loaded. Brown (0-3) went 3.2 innings, allowing five runs and four hits while walking six and striking out three.

Foote, who went 3-for-4, tallied an RBI single in the fifth to make it 6-2.

The Falcons cut the lead to 6-4 with two runs on three hits in the sixth, including a RBI single by Price Paramore.

It was as close as the Falcons would get, however, as Haymore collected his fourth RBI of the game in bottom of the eighth, putting the Lobos up 7-4.

Fernandez (6-4) walked just one and scattered eight hits on four runs in addition to his eight strikeouts.
