The University of New Mexico baseball team dropped its second straight game to San Diego State with a 15-4 set-back today in San Diego, Calif. The Lobos (15-17, 5-6 MWC) remain in a tight race with the Aztecs (9-20, 4-4 MWC) for third place in the Mountain West Conference standings.
UNM jumped out to an early 1-0, lead in the second inning behind Matt Foote’s RBI triple that scored Ian Hollick. It was the second triple of the season for Foote and his 22nd RBI. New Mexico’s lead was short-lived as SDSU tacked on eight runs in the third inning, taking the lead for good.
UNM managed nine hits in the game, including two from Foote, Hollick, Garrick Haymore, and Daniel Stovall. Danny Ray Herrera (4-2) took the loss for the Lobos while Bruce Billings (3-3) evened his record for the Aztecs.
UNM will conclude its three-game trip to San Diego State tomorrow with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (M.D.T.). Live stats will be available at www.GoLobos.com.
