With today’s victory, New Mexico has now won seven straight MWC Tournament games dating back to the 2003 tournament, a Mountain West record. The Lobos won the 2003 and 2004 MWC Championship titles.
New Mexico set a MWC Championship record for field goals in a game with 31, breaking BYU’s record of 30 set in 2000.
The Lobos also set a MWC Championship record for field-goal percentage in a game as they shot 58.5 percent (31-for-53), including 69.6 percent (16-for-23) in the first half.
With 81 points today, New Mexico is just the third team to top 80 points in MWC Championship history (Utah, 83 vs. Air Force, 2003; BYU, 82 vs. Wyoming, 2002)
New Mexico won its three games vs. SDSU this season by a combined 68 points. Today’s game was the largest margin of the three contests (29 points). The Lobos have now won 12 straight games over SDSU dating back to March 2001.
