ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico Highlands used 14 hits to defeat the New Mexico baseball team, 11-5, Tuesday night at Isotopes Park. The Lobos fall to 7-9 for the season, while the Cowboys improve to 12-6. UNM returns to action for a three-game series this weekend (March 11-13) against Savannah State at Isotopes Park. The first game of the series is set for Friday, March 11 at 6 p.m.

Daniel Stovall went 3-for-4 with an RBI triple for UNM, while Carlos Castillo went 2-for-3 with a home run. Chris Carlson belted his third homer of the season, blasting a solo shot deep over the left-field fence in the eighth.

Lobo starter Bobby Moore (0-1) took the loss after giving up four runs and five walks in 2.2 innings of action. Highlands went up 4-1 after two and a half innings, but Jordan Pacheco drove in a run in the bottom of the third to make it 4-2.

The Cowboys scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead. Castillo hit his homer in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 7-3 going into the sixth.

NMHU put the game away with four runs in the eighth to go up 11-3. Carlson hit a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth and Jay Russell had a pinch-hit RBI double to close the gap to 11-5 for UNM.

Cowboy starter Justin Munoz pitched seven solid innings to earn the victory. He struck out five and gave up three runs on eight hits.

Eric Honea and Jordan Prado each had three hits for Highlands.
