BYU Head Coach Steve Cleveland:

“I can’t remember a team shooting 62-percent in a game against us. They stepped up and made big shots, especially (Troy) DeVries and certainly (Danny) Granger. Chris (Miles) was guarding Granger, and except for maybe a couple of rebounds, he contested every shot. He just made shots over him.

“They’re playing really good. They know they have to win out, and they showed that tonight.

“Right now we don’t have the personnel to play with teams when they play like this. Jimmy (Balderson) didn’t practice all week and I tried to play him on a bad ankle, and he struggled.

“We just weren’t good enough tonight. We did some good things, but not enough to overcome their offensive explosion. They’re very good. I told my players after the game that they need to play like UNM did tonight for the rest of the season.”

New Mexico head coach Ritchie McKay

On tonight’s game:
“We played well to start defensively. We got to comfortable with our lead as indicative of their 55 percent shooting for the game and 62 percent for the second half. So I think we are a good team that is approaching really good but there are some things we could do better.”

On Danny Granger’s performance:
“Danny is an outstanding player. They struggled to match up with him. ”

On the team’s selfless play:
“We had great unselfishness. Any time you have 22 assists – and I still think we lead the league in that category – it’s one of those characteristics that allows our team to approach having a special season.”
