MALIBU, Calif. – Due to the relentless rain trouncing Southern California, the men’s tennis match between No. 24 Pepperdine and No. 65 New Mexico has been cancelled. The contest was originally scheduled for Friday, but moved to Saturday morning in hopes of clearer skies. The match will not be made up.
The Lobos’ Saturday afternoon match at Pepperdine against No. 34Arizona is in serious jeopardy as well. Barring a sudden change in the weather, that match will be lost.
As of Saturday morning, officials are hopeful of a weather break on Sunday, so that the Pepperdine-Arizona match may be contested at its original 1:00 p.m. time. Though rain is still being predicted for Sunday, the teams are optimistic that one of this weekend’s three matches will be played.
If the Lobos-Wildcats game is not played, the Lobos will return home and wait for their first home match of the season. New Mexico will host in-state rival New Mexico State on Friday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. in the First State Bank/Comcast Lobo Invitational.
