ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Texas State snapped the New Mexico baseball team’s four-game winning streak with a 10-6 victory over the Lobos Saturday afternoon at Isotopes Park. The Lobos are now 4-5 for the season, while the Bobcats improve to 7-2. The series finale will be Sunday afternoon at Isotopes Park, with the first pitch set for 12 p.m.

The Bobcats jumped on Lobo starter Karsten Gaarder early, scoring five runs and pounding out eight hits in the first two innings to go up 5-0. UNM bounced back with one run in the bottom of the second and two in the third on a Chad Itokazu solo homer and a Jordan Pacheco RBI single to make it 5-3. Itokazu went 2-for-3 in the game, while Pacheco went 3-for-5.

Texas State got one back in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead, but the Lobos came back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 6-5.

It would be as close as the Lobos could get, however, as the Bobcats plated two in the sixth to claim an 8-5 advantage.

Chris Carlson delivered an RBI single in the seventh to make it 8-6, but the Bobcats bounced back once again, scoring two in the ninth on a Dominic Ramos double.

The Lobos loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth but couldn’t take advantage as Scott Moore came in and closed the game, striking out the last two batters to end the rally.

Jarod Garza picked up the win for the Bobcats after firing five effective innings in middle relief. He allowed six hits on just one run.
