ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico baseball team used an 11-run seventh inning to cruise past Texas State, 19-5, Friday night at Isotopes Park. The Lobos (4-4) racked up a season-high 18 hits in extending their winning streak to four games. UNM snapped Texas State’s (6-2) four-game winning streak.

Sophomore designated hitter Chris Carlson exploded for six RBI and went 3-for-5 at the plate, including a three-run homer in the decisive seventh inning. Sophomore first baseman Daniel Stovall continued his hot hitting, collecting three hits and three RBI, and sophomore center fielder Matt Foote had a career day at the plate, knocking in a career-best five runs on three hits. Foote hit a two-run homer – his first career shot – in the seventh.

Garrick Haymore went 3-for-6 with three runs, Jordan Pacheco went 2-for-5 with three runs and Ryan Barba collected two hits and two runs. Barba also had seven assists at shortstop.

Jason Fernandez (2-1) picked up his second victory of the season by firing seven strong innings, allowing just three runs on six hits with four strikeouts.

The Lobos led 4-1 after three innings, but Texas State scored single runs in the top of the fourth and fifth to make it 4-3. Carlson and Stovall each had RBI groundouts in the bottom of the fifth to put UNM up 6-3, and the Lobos added one more in the sixth before 11-run seventh.

Chris Jean (2-1) took the loss for the Bobcats, allowing four runs and five hits in 2.2 innings of action.

The two teams will meet again Saturday afternoon, with the first pitch set for 2 p.m.

NOTES:

• The game started 30 minutes late after a rain delay.

• Daniel Stovall has hit safely in every game this season. Dating back to last season, he has now hit in 18 consecutive games

• Stovall now has a team-best 14 RBI for the season while Carlson has 13 RBI

• UNM is 4-0 at home
