LUBBOCK, TEXAS – The New Mexico baseball team fell to Texas Tech, 18-6, Tuesday afternoon at Dan Law Field. The Lobos return to action with a three-game home series this weekend against New Mexico State at Isotopes Park. Opening Night is set for Friday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on KDEF 1150 AM and GoLobos.com, and live stats will be available at GoLobos.com.

The Lobos (0-4) jumped out an early 5-1 lead after scoring five runs in the top of the third. After a groundout started the inning, UNM rattled off six consecutive hits, including RBI singles by Matt Foote and Jay Russell, and RBI doubles by Chris Carlson and Daniel Stovall.

The Red Raiders (1-0) stormed back, however, and scored in every inning after the Lobos took the lead in the top of third. Tech scored one in the third and reclaimed the lead at 6-5 with four in the fourth.

Tech extended its lead with two runs in the fifth off reliever Mike Smith and four in the sixth off Brandon Hewett to go up 12-5.

Chris Richburg hit a two-run homer to left field in the seventh, and the Raiders plated four more runs in the eighth to complete their scoring. Richburg finished the game 2-for-5 with four RBI.

New Mexico added one run in the ninth as Ian Hollick delivered a pinch-hit RBI single up the middle to bring home Jordan Pacheco. Pacheco went 3-for-4 with two runs in the game.

The Lobos finished with 10 hits in the game, while the Red Raiders collected 16.

Junior reliever Jesse Garcia-Perez (0-1) took the loss for UNM after allowing four runs on five hits in the decisive third inning. Joe McCoy pitched four innings of scoreless ball in relief to earn the win for Tech.
