ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Freshman forward Dionne Marsh notched her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to propel the University of New Mexico to a dominating 75-49 win over Colorado State in front of 11,551 fans on Saturday at The Pit. The Lobos’ 26-point margin of victory was its largest against the Rams since a 95-64 win on Dec. 3, 1983.

New Mexico continued its best start in program history, improving to 17-3 on the year and 6-1 in the Mountain West Conference, while CSU dropped to 13-7, including 4-3 in league play.

CSU got off to a solid start, knotting the game at 11 at the 12:43 mark, following a pair of free throws by Melissa Dennett. The Rams, however, hit the wall, connecting on just one field goal over the next nine minutes as New Mexico seized control of the game with a 22-3 run. The nation’s best scoring defense was relentless once again, holding CSU to season-lows of 16 points and 20.8 percent shooting in the first half, as the Lobos went into the locker room with a comfortable 37-16 lead.

The two teams exchanged points for the first nine minutes of the second half before the Lobos’ pin-point three-point shooting ended any of the Rams’ comeback hopes. New Mexico knocked down eight of its season-high 12 three-pointers in the second period, while CSU finished the day just 3-10 from beyond the arc.

UNM scored 25 points off of 21 Colorado State turnovers, while matching their season-low with just seven miscues. Sophomore Katie Montgomery added 12 points on four three-pointers, along with five assists. Fellow sophomore Julie Briody chipped in 13 points off the bench, including three from beyond the arc. Senior Lindsey Arndt had five points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Mandi Moore had nine points, three rebounds and two assists before leaving midway through the second half with an apparent eye injury.

Dennett paced the Rams with 14 points and also had three blocks. Junior center Lindsay Thomas, however, recorded just six points and two rebounds before fouling out. Thomas entered the game wish season averages of 13.3 points and 8.6 rebounds.

New Mexico won its sixth-straight home game over CSU, limiting the Rams’ to their fewest points in the series since 1987. The Lobos’ 75 points, meanwhile, were their most in the last 13 meetings with Colorado State.
