Head Coach Ritchie McKay:
“This team is capable of shooting the ball like that. Tonight, Danny Granger’s presence from the floor does a lot for our offensive success. We’re an unselfish team. When we’re moving the ball like that, we’re hard to guard. I’m a little disappointed in the way we turned it over, but I’m very proud of our team defensively. I think those that forgot about us should take note.
On Mark Walters:
“Mark Walters did a tremendous job on (Brandon) Heath defensively.”
On Danny Granger:
“He looked good tonight. The rust has kind of shaken off. I worry about his minutes because I don’t want to lose him again. I thought everybody that played contributed, and that’s the mark of a good team.
On Alfred Neale:
“He was hot all right. At one time I told him to swing it. I know he heard it. He acted like he didn’t hear it – then made a 22-footer. If that didn’t go in, he was coming out.”
SAN DIEGO STATE HEAD COACH STEVE FISHER
“The (Lobos’) shot selection looked the same as (it did against) Air Force – lay-ups and three-pointers. We have to go back and look and see how many of the three-pointers were contested, but you can’t give up lay-ups like we did. Part of it was that we started to gamble too soon, trying to make steals, trying to steal off the dribble and that led to all sorts of issues defensively. They were good, but we were part of the reason that they were good. They shot the ball like crazy. Maybe they’re back to where they were when they were leading the nation in field goal percentage. They can shoot the ball at every position.”
(on the match-up problems caused by defending Danny Granger) “He’s the best player in the league and really great players make all the rest of them better. Without question, he does that for that team.”
