Lobos Bounce Back With Win Over San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Junior Lindsey Arndt recorded a double-double behind a 20-point, 17-rebound performance to push the Mountain West Conference leading New Mexico women’s basketball team to a 72-53 win over San Diego State (6-11, 1-4 MWC).
The first half was tied up at 18-18 with 6:38 left when New Mexico’s offense went on an 11-1 run over the next four minutes. Senior Jenny Shetters scored four of her six points during the run to give the Lobos an eight point lead. The Aztecs’ Tiara Harris rattled off eight straight points to send them to the lockerrooms down 33-29 at the half.
New Mexico opened the second half with a 15-6 run sparked by freshman Dionne Marsh, scoring six of her 10 points. San Diego State battled back to within six points but didn’t have enough to overcome the streaking Lobos. New Mexico finished the final three minutes on a 15-3 run which saw senior Mandi Moore scored eight of her 11 points.
For the game, New Mexico shot 48.9 percent (23-47) compared to the Aztecs’ 36.2 percent (17-47). New Mexico outrebounded San Diego State 34-21.
The Lobos had four players in double figures, including junior Abbie Letz, chipping in 11, along with Arndt, Moore and Marsh. San Diego State was led by Jessica Huettl with 14 points.
New Mexico (15-3, 4-1 MWC) returns home to host Wyoming on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.
