The University of New Mexico will play host to conference leader Utah on Saturday afternoon for Pack The Pit. The Lobos are 13-2 on the season and 2-0 in the MWC, while Utah is 14-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Tickets for Saturday’s game are $4 on Friday, but go back to regular price the day of the game. Tip-off is set for 2:00 P.M. Saturday at The Pit.
TONIGHT’S GAME:Tonight’s game features the Lobos of the University of New Mexico hosting the Utes of the University of Utah in a Mountain West Conference matchup.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO:The Lobos enter tonight’s game with a 13-2 record and 2-0 in the MWC with losses to No. 7 Texas (75-56) and No.11 Minnesota (75-35) and wins at New Mexico State (57-44) and Oklahoma State (60-56) and home wins over Missouri (67-58), Gonzaga (76-54), Bowling Green (73-43), San Diego (58-50), No. 23 Arizona State (61-45), New Mexico State (56-27), San Francisco (63-52), Morgan State (101-22), Utah Valley State (69-29), Air Force (72-58) and BYU (64-51). New Mexico’s leading scorer on the season is senior Lindsey Arndt at 9.5 ppg. with freshman Dionne Marsh following at 9.1 ppg. Arndt also leads the Lobos in rebounding at 5.7 rpg. and senior Mandi Moore leads UNM in assists at 6.0 apg.
SCOUTING UTAH:The Utes enter the contest 14-4 overall and 3-0 in the MWC with wins over Georgetown 63-57, Hawaii 52-45, Idaho 57-50, Utah Valley State 88-66, Washington 64-56, Weber State 66-59, TCU 85-72, Loyola Marymount 56-33, IPFW 62-42, Montana 68-42, Northern Colorado 85-35, Colorado State 68-50, Wyoming 67-49 and Air Force 97-47 and losses to Stanford 63-57, Michigan State 56-54, Oklahoma 72-59 and Gonzaga 66-60. The Utes are led in scoring by Kim Smith at 17.0 ppg. Smith also leads Utah in rebounding at 9.5 rpg, while Shona Thorburn leads the team in assists at 6.8 apg.
THE COACHES:UNM is led by head coach Don Flanagan who is in his 10th season at New Mexico. Flanagan is 204-91 at UNM. Utah is led by Elaine Elliott who is in her 21st season at Utah. Elliott is 451-182 with the Utes.
