Albuquerque, N.M. – After a sluggish start, the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team went on to defeat the Air Force Falcons 72-58 in its first Mountain West Conference game of the season. It was the Lobos’ (12-2, 1-0 MWC) 16th straight win over the Falcons (5-9, 0-1 MWC).

Air Force was leading the Lobos 45-42 in the first five minutes of the second half, but back-to-back threes from Judy Vogt and Jana Francis quickly stifled AFA and propelled New Mexico to lead for the remainder of the game.

Alecia Steele led Air Force with 15 points.

New Mexico is back at home to host MWC foes BYU on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. and Utah on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 2 p.m.
