The University of New Mexico women’s basetball team will open the Mountain West Conference portion of their schedule on Saturday afternoon against Air Force. The Lobos are 11-2 on the season, while the Falcons bring a 5-8 overall record into Albuquerque. Tip-off is set for 2:00 P.M. at The Pit and can be heard live on KNML 610 AM.
TONIGHT’S GAME:Tonight’s game features the Lobos of the University of New Mexico hosting the Falcons of the Air Force Academy in the Mountain West Conference opener for both teams.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO:The Lobos enter tonight’s game with an 11-2 record with losses to No. 7 Texas (75-56) and No.11 Minnesota (75-35) and wins at New Mexico State (57-44) and Oklahoma State (60-56) and home wins over Missouri (67-58), Gonzaga (76-54), Bowling Green (73-43), San Diego (58-50), No. 23 Arizona State (61-45), New Mexico State (56-27), San Francisco (63-52), Morgan State (101-22) and Utah Valley State (69-29). New Mexico’s leading scorer on the season is senior Lindsey Arndt at 9.1 ppg. with freshman Dionne Marsh following at 8.8 ppg. Arndt also leads the Lobos in rebounding at 5.5 rpg. and senior Mandi Moore leads UNM in assists at 6.2 apg.
SCOUTING AIR FORCE:The Falcons enter the contest 5-8 with wins over UC Davis 75-61, Portland 68-61, Northern Colorado 67-62, Navy 72-62 and Regis 72-52 and losses to Montana State 74-73, New Mexico State 53-42, Albany 86-65, Utah State 72-68, Illinois State 89-70, Boise State 47-35, San Diego 80-78 and Army 60-53. Air Force is led in scoring by Letricia Castillo at 12.6 ppg. Alecia Steele leads AFA in rebounding at 7.3 rpg., while Lauren Henderson leads them in assists at 4.5 apg.
