This week’s featured Lobo is freshman Tony Danridge. Danridge is a 6-5, guard/forward from El Cajon High School in San Bernardino, Calif. He is a high-flying wing who was the California Division II John Wooden Award Winner following his senior year of high school. So far this season, Danridge has played in every game and is averaging 3.7 ppg and 1.0 rpg. He is averaging almost 13 minutes per game and has scored double-figures twice this season. Tony recently matched his season-high with 10 points against Wyoming. He also came off the bench at Texas-Arlington to score six, quick points in the first half and help UNM extend their lead.
Danridge is an excellent leaper who also posses a good mid-range jumper. He is long and is developing into a good defender. Look for more scoring and highlight-reel-worthy slams from Tony as he improves during the season. He are some of the questions you had for Lobo freshman Tony Danridge.
How old were you when you first dunked? (Jay – Albuquerque)
I was in 8th grade, I think I was 13 then. I was just playing around and dunked, everyone was kind of amazed and the principal of the middle school told me I have to stay off the rim!
Why did you choose to come to UNM?
The coaching…the coaches were all for me, and it just really felt like the right choice. The program here is run for my type of game.
Tony, this is Miles from sixth period basketball at Cajon. Why do they always say El Cajon High when they say your high school, and why do they spell your last name wrong? (Miles McCadney – San Bernardino, Calif.)
Hey what’s up Miles. I really don’t know, but we’ll get that changed next year.
Tony, are you related to former Norfolk State grad and NBA player Bobby Dandridge? (Mark Hildenbrand – Richmond, Va.)
No, he spells his last name different.
What are your goals for the basketball season? (Kay)
Win the Mountain West Conference Championship, and advance in the NCAA Tournament, and to continue to improve my own skills.
What is your favorite movie of all time?(Lisa M.)
Hoop Dreams.
What is your New Year’s Resolution?(Lisa M.)
Win the Mountain West Conference Championship.
Is the Pit really all that you thought it would be? (Albuquerque)
Yeah it really is…the fans are crazy and they give us tremendous support.
Tony, Do miss everyone at Cajon like Mike, Sleepy, Aaron, AJ, and all your old teammates? (Byron Wells – San Bernardino, Calif.)
Yeah, you know I do. I’ll go there and see them all this summer.
