The University of New Mexico women’s basketball will hit the road for the first time in over a month on Sunday when they travel to play no. 11 Minnesota. The Lobos enter the contest with a 10-1 record, while the golden Gophers are 12-2 on the season. Tip-off on Sunday is set for 1:00 P.M. (MST) at Williams Arena and can be seen on Fox Sports Net North or heard live on KNML 610 AM.
TONIGHT’S GAME:Tonight’s game features the Lobos of the University of New Mexico visiting the Golden Gophers of the University of Minnesota in a non-conference matchup.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS:The Lobos enter tonight’s game with a 10-1 record with a loss to No. 7 Texas (75-56) and wins at New Mexico State (57-44) and Oklahoma State (60-56) and home wins over Missouri (67-58), Gonzaga (76-54), Bowling Green (73-43), San Diego (58-50), No. 23 Arizona State (61-45), New Mexico State (56-27), San Francisco (63-52) and Morgan State (101-22). New Mexico’s leading scorer on the season is senior Lindsey Arndt at 10.2 ppg. with freshman Dionne Marsh following at 8.6 ppg. Arndt also leads the Lobos in rebounding at 5.9 rpg. and senior Mandi Moore leads UNM in assists at 6.4 apg.
SCOUTING MINNESOTA:Minnesota enters today’s contest with a 11-2 record with wins over UNLV 77-69, Arkansas State 82-45, Creighton 79-71, Detroit 86-34, Kansas 62-45, Wisconsin-Green Bay 60-51, Santa Clara 69-42, Drake 74-57, Northwestern 62-44, Indiana 61-47 and Wisconsin 74-49 and losses to Washington 72-67 and LSU 75-67. The Golden Gophers are led by Janel McCarville with 16.7 ppg, followed by Jamie Broback at 14.1 ppg. McCarville also leads Minnesota in rebounds at 10.8 rpg and assists at 4.3 apg.
THE COACHES:UNM is led by head coach Don Flanagan who is in his 10th season at New Mexico. Flanagan is 201-90 at UNM. Minnesota is led by head coach Pam Borton who is in her third year at UM and seventh season overall. Borton is 62-17 at Minnesota and 131-63 overall.
