Senior All-America candidate Danny Granger scored a
season-high 25 points to power New Mexico to a 64-55
victory over Texas-Arlington. Only 847 fans were on hand
at Texas Hall on the UTA campus as the Lobos won
consecutive road games for the first time in four years.

After dropping 29 straight games away from Albuquerque,
the Lobos have registered back-to-back road victories for
the first time since taking three straight during the
2000-01 season (at New Mexico State, at Gonzaga and at San
Diego State).

UNM improves to 13-2 on the season, its best start since
the 1998-99 team began 16-2. New Mexico is one victory
shy of matching last year’s win total when it finished
14-14. The Mavericks fall to 5-5.

Granger added 10 rebounds, 5 blocks and 3 assists and made
several key plays when UTA tried to get back in the game.
After the Mavericks cut UNM’s 14-point halftime lead to
40-34, Granger sparked a 12-0 Lobo run with consecutive
3-pointers. Granger nailed four treys on the night.

The Lobos looked in control with a 52-34 advantage with
7:48 left in the game only to have UTA storm back. A 12-2
burst trimmed UNM’s lead to 59-51 with 1:55 to go.

Kris Collins missed the front end of a 1-and-1, but
Granger pulled down the offensive rebound and was fouled.
He made both free throws then blocked a shot at the other
end of the floor.

The Lobos started very slowly, missing 13 of their first
15 shots from the field as they trailed 8-4 with more than
eight minutes gone in the game. However, freshman wing
Tony Danridge came off the bench to score six quick points
during a 10-0 run that provided UNM a lead it would never
lose. Danridge came into the game averaging 3.1 points.

David Chiotti was the only other Lobo to score in double
figures, finishing with 10 points and six rebounds.
Jarrett Howell led the Mavs with 20 points.

New Mexico returns home Saturday to open Mountain West
Conference play against Wyoming. Tipoff is 7:07 p.m.
It’s Pack the Pit as all remaining tickets are just $10.
