Albuquerque, N.M. (AP) – Troy DeVries scored a career-high 22 points to lead New Mexico to a 101-68 win over Mississippi Valley State in the first round of the Lobo Invitational on Tuesday night.

DeVries was 6 of 10 from 3-point range, also a career high. Danny Granger added a pair of 3s and finished with 21 points for the Lobos (11-2).

New Mexico forward Sean Phaler came off the bench to score 14 points and grab three rebounds in just seven minutes. He scored 10 points in five first-half minutes, hitting 2 of 4 from 3-point range.

The Lobos used accurate 3-point shooting to put the game out of reach. They were 14 of 25 from beyond the 3-point arc, while Mississippi Valley State (2-6) hit only four out of 26 attempts from 3-point range.

Carlos Lucus was a bright spot for the Delta Devils. The 6-foot-4 freshman came off the bench to score 14 points. Sandford Speech scored 12 and Tim Latiker added 11.

New Mexico had a 50-33 lead at haltime and the game got uglier in the second half. The Lobos went on a 14-2 run and then a 15-5 run to stretch their lead to 40 points.

The Delta Devils scored the game’s first four points and stayed close through the first six minutes. But a barrage of 3-pointers, including five from DeVries, ignited a 21-8 run that put the Lobos ahead.

DeVries scored 17 first-half points.
