Dec. 20, 2004

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Isotopes Park was named the top collegiate baseball field for 2004 by the SportsTurf Managers Association. Isotopes Head Groundskeeper Jarad Alley will accept the award at the annual STMA Conference and Exhibition in January. Alley and his staff also received the President’s Honorable Mention Award this past season from the Pacific Coast League.

Isotopes Park was home to 72 Triple-A baseball games, 27 University of New Mexico Lobo baseball games, the National High School All-American Game, the New Mexico State Baseball Tournament, and the Native American All-Star Game in 2004.

The STMA Field of the Year Award program gives out awards in five sports: baseball, football, soccer, softball, and complex. For each field type, awards are given in collegiate, professional, and schools/parks divisions. All winning fields will be featured in a 2005 article in the SPORTSTURF Magazine, the industry’s premier publication. The STMA is the not-for-profit, professional association for the men and women who manage sports fields.

The Lobos begin the 2005 season with a three-game series at Arizona Feb. 4-6. The following weekend (Feb. 11-13), UNM will host its first series of the year against New Mexico State.
