New Mexico and New Mexico State will meet for the 52nd time on Tuesday night at The Pit. The Lobos have won 17 straight against the Aggies, including a 57-44 win earlier this season in Las Cruces. UNM enters the game with a 7-1 record after a win on Saturday over No. 23 Arizona State, while NMSU is 4-5 and is also coming off a win on Saturday over Cal Poly. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and can be heard live on 610 AM The Sports Animal.
TONIGHT’S GAME:Tonight’s game features the Lobos of the University of New Mexico against the Aggies of New Mexico State University in a non-conference matchup.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS:The Lobos enter tonight’s game with a 7-1 record with a loss to No. 7 Texas (75-56) and wins at New Mexico State (57-44) and Oklahoma State (60-56) and home wins over Missouri (67-58), Gonzaga (76-54), Bowling Green (73-43), San Diego (58-50) and No. 23 Arizona State (61-45). New Mexico’s leading scorer on the season is senior Lindsey Arndt at 11.3 ppg. with sophomore Katie Montgomery following at 8.4 ppg. Arndt also leads the Lobos in rebounding at 6.5 rpg. and senior Mandi Moore leads UNM in assists at 7.3 apg.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO STATE:New Mexico state comes to The Pit with a 4-5 record registering wins over Air Force (53-42), Western New Mexico (74-59), UTEP (49-44) and Cal Poly SLO (60-55) and losses to New Mexico (57-44), UTEP (64-44), Northern Arizona (78-62), Texas Arlington (50-34) and San Jose State (54-43). Leading the Aggies in scoring is Trecha Kennedy at 10.8 ppg. Sherell Neal leads NMSU in rebounds at 6.3 rpg. , while Monique Bribiescas leads the team in assists at 3.2 apg.
THE COACHESUNM is led by head coach Don Flanagan who is in his 10th season at New Mexico. Flanagan is 198-90 at UNM. New Mexico State is led by Darrin Spence who is in his second year at NMSU. Spence is 17-21 at New Mexico State.
