Q&A With Bambale OsbyQ&A With Bambale Osby

Dec. 17, 2004

This week’s featured Lobo is freshman Bambale Osby. “Boom,” as he is more commonly known in The Pit, has been a burst of energy off the bench so far this season. He is getting more comfortable in his role and is getting better each week. In the Lobos’ last game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff he scored seven points and grabbed nine rebounds, both season-highs, in 16 minutes of action. Here are some of the questions you had for Bambale Osby.

Boom, what brought you from the east coast to New Mexico? (Darrick T. – Springville, Utah)

BO: “That’s easy, Coach Broussard. If it were not for him I wouldn’t be here. Whenever I needed anything I could talk to him and he would give me a straight answer. I was real comfortable with him and wanted to play for him and Coach McKay.”

What is the daily routine for a basketball player? (Sammi – Rio Rancho, N.M.)

BO: “It all depends on what day it is. Usually, I wake up and go to individual workouts. After that there is study hall for a couple of hours. Next comes class, then there is practice at 3:00 p.m. We have training table after practice and then I get home around 7:00 p.m. Usually, it is about a 12 hour day, so not really that bad.”

Was it tough adjusting to college life, being so far from home? (JC – Albuquerque. N.M.)

BO: “Not really, actually it was pretty easy. I like being away form home; being away from home is awesome. I have a great support here and great people around me. That makes it much easier!”

What is your favorite thing about The Pit? (Krista – Albuquerque, N.M.)

The bleachers go all the way up into the shadows and that that is something else!

What is your favorite thing about New Mexico? (Brad – Albuquerque, N.M.)

BO: “The weather, it’s 60 degrees in December. There are some days I can wear shorts and a T-shirt in the middle of winter. I love that!!”

How do the Lobo Fans help you on game day? (Ben – Albuquerque, N.M.)

BO: “They are something else. They do a good job of supporting us and help us keep our heads in the game. They also get us pumped up and keep our intensity at a high level.”

What is your Christmas wish?

BO: “To have my Cadillac run, so I can drive it.”

Who is the best player you ever played against?

BO: “That’s tough, probably Dwight Howard.”

What’s the biggest difference between Richmond and Albuquerque?

BO: “There are a lot more trees and grass in Richmond. There are also a lot more people in Richmond.”

What was your favorite college team growing up?

BO: “North Carolina. I used to love NC.”

Who was your favorite pro-team?

BO: “I didn’t have a favorite pro-team, but I did like Shaq because of the way he could just dominate!”

Who was your favorite player?

BO: “As soon as I turned 14 or 15, Ben Wallace became my favorite player. We are both from the same place and he went to Virginia Union, so I got to play with him a lot during the summer.”
