New Mexico Defeated By No. 7 Texas, 73- 56

ALBUQUERQUE (AP) – Texas senior guard Jamie Carey scored a career-high 28 points,including six 3-pointers, to lead No. 7 Texas past New Mexico 73-56 onSaturday.
Carey, who scored 19 first-half points, finished 9-of-14 from the field,including 6-of-8 from 3-point range. Kala Bowers was the only other Longhorn indouble figures with 12 points.
Lindsey Arndt had 15 points and Fatima Maddox added 12 for the Lobos (4-1).
Texas (4-2) led 34-26 at halftime and New Mexico came within seven with13:23 left. But the Longhorns blocked shots and forced turnovers, pulling ahead61-43 behind Heather Schreiber’s seven straight points.
In the first half, the Lobos went nearly five minutes before they scored ona jumper by Maddox.
Texas went on a 9-0 run midway through the first half to stretch its lead to16-5.
New Mexico trailed by as many as 19 points in the second half.
