ROCKY FACE, Ga. – The University of New Mexico men’s golf team struggled again today in the third round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate and finished tied for eighth place. The Lobos shot a 15-over par, 303, on the difficult 7,010 yard par-72 Farm Golf Club and ended the tournament at 36-over (295-302-303=900). Georgia won the team title leading the whole way and finished at 15-over par.

Senior Madalitso Muthiya was the bright spot for the Lobos as he finished in a tie for second. Muthiya shot a final round 74 and finished the tournament at 2-over par (70-74-74=218), one stroke behind medalist Rhys Davies of East Tennessee State. Other UNM individual finishes were junior Spencer Levin tied for 29th at 9-over par (74-77-74=225), senior Jay Reynolds tied for 55th at 15-over par (79-73-79=231), junior Jay Choi tied for 66th at 18-over par (72-78-84=234) and senior Miguel Griego was 77th at 22-over par (83-79-76=238).

The Carpet Capital Collegiate ends the fall season for the Lobos. Junior Spencer Levin will play individually at the Western Refining College All-American Classic on Nov. 22-23 in El Paso, Texas. New Mexico will open the spring schedule on February 7, 2005 at the PING Arizona Intercollegiate.
