ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Seniors David Kowalski (Carlsbad, N.M./Carlsbad HS) and Ryan Stotland (Boise, Idaho/Borah HS) knocked off the nation’s fifth-ranked duo of Roger Matalonga and Colin O’Grady of Arizona, 9-8 (4), at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Indoor Championships this morning at the University of Michigan Varsity Tennis Center.
Kowalski and Stotland will now play LSU’s Mark Growcott and Ken Skupski in the consolation bracket semifinals tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET. Growcott is ranked 28th nationally when paired with Jason Hazley while Skupski is ranked 38th nationally when teamed with Peter Richman.
This week’s event, which concludes Sunday, is the second of three national tournaments during the 2004-05 collegiate tennis season. The ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships were inaugurated in 1978 for the men and 1984 for the women.
