New Mexico Head Coach Ritchie McKay:

“We definitely looked liked we just came off the Thanksgiving holiday in the first half. We had several opportunities to put them away, but we didn’t. I didn’t like the way we played in the first half, but I liked the way we responded to start the second half. However, it’s very frustrating when the opponent gets 16 more shots than you do (NAU-62 shots; UNM-46).

“This team is still getting better. We’re not a championship-caliber team yet, but the pieces are there. We’ve shown glimpses of being a really good team. This team is into the little things that make the team win.

“The biggest difference for us this year is that we have a bench we can go to. We’re not as reliant on Danny (Granger) and David (Chiotti) to have big games, but, that being said, Danny and David are difficult to match up against and we’re much better when they produce.”
