The men’s basketball program has recently started its participation in the Sweet Tomatoes Pen Pal Program with area middle and elementary schools. The Sweet Tomatoes Pen Pal Program is designed to assist school-age children with their writing skills, relationship-building with people they may consider role models, and creating a way for the students to build self-esteem.
Teachers are also encouraged to create classroom activities using www.GoLobos.com to research their Pen Pal student-athlete and give the students the opportunity to get to know their Pen Pal better.
The Pen Pal Program is sponsored by Sweet Tomatoes and consists of a series of letters between the students in the schools and the men’s basketball team members. The men’s basketball team sent out their first letter this week, and the replies from the elementary and middle school students will be back to them shortly. The program culminates at the December 12th game versus Arkansas Pine Bluff. After the game, the Pen Pal students will have an opportunity to meet with their Lobo men’s basketball Pen Pal!
