ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team will open up the 2004-05 regular season at instate rival New Mexico State on Saturday November 20 at 7:05 p.m. The Lobos finished the exhibition schedule with a perfect 2-0 record, as the Aggies finished 1-0. UNM enters Saturday’s game with a 16 game winning streak against the Aggies and lead the overall series 29-21. The game can be seen live on KWBQ WB19 (channel 6 on Comcast) in Albuquerque.
TONIGHT’S GAME:Tonight’s game features the Lobos of the University of New Mexico against the Aggies of New Mexico State in an interstate non-conference matchup. This is the regular season opener for both teams.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS:The Lobos return 11 players, including four starters from last seasons Mountain West Conference championship team. The top returning scorer and rebounder for New Mexico is senior forward Lindsey Arndt with 10.4 ppg and 7.0 rpg. in exhibition play the Lobos were 2-0 with victories over the West Coast All-Stars 85-55 and the NWBL Elite 72-57. Leading the way for UNM in the two exhibitions was Abbie Letz with 12.5 ppg and Katie Montgomery with 10.0 ppg.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES:New Mexico State is coming off a 13-16 finish and was fourth in the Sun Belt Conference. The Aggies top returning scorer and rebounder is Amanda Clift at 2.0 ppg. and 3.0 rpg. NMSU returns five letterwinners, but only one starter form last years squad. In exhibition play the Aggies were 1-0 with a win over the Houston Jaguars 82-78 and were led by Sherell Neal with 17 points and 16 rebounds.
