In the first meeting between the two schools, New Mexico defeated North Carolina A&T, 75-59, before 12,436 Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

The Lobos improve to 73-29 all-time in season openers, including a 37-6 record since the 1962-63 season…UNM also improves to 73-25 all-time in home openers and have now won 40 of their last 44.

Senior Danny Granger was 5-of-7 from the field for 13 points in the first half…he scored the first points of the Lobo season 30 seconds into the game…he put down four dunks in the first half…three of those dunks came within two minutes of each other midway through the first half…Granger recorded eight dunks all of last season…he finished the game with 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting…he was 8-of-14 from the free-throw line.

Junior David Chiotti scored 18 points on a team-best 8-of-9 shooting from the field.

The Lobos recorded six dunks in the first half…Granger had four, while Alfred Neale and David Chiotti each had one.

New Mexico shot a blazing 63 percent (26-for-41) from the field for the game…the Lobos finished the first half shooting 65 percent (15-for-23)… they started the game 5-for-7 shooting.

The Lobos opened the second half on a 10-1 run over the first eight minutes, opening up a 16-point lead (48-32)…New Mexico led by as many as 25 points (67-42) with 6:05 left in the second half.

Freshman Darren Prentice scored the first points of his career with a 3-point basket at the 11:35 mark in the second half…fellow freshman Bambale Osby scored his first career points with a layup at the 9:45 mark in the second half.

UNM outscored North Carolina A&T in the paint, 44-22…UNM also outscored the Aggies in fast break points, 11-2.
