For the second week in a row, Lobo junior midfielder Lance Watson was named the Brine Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week after guiding the Lobos to a pair of wins over the weekend. Watson recorded an assist in UNM’s 5-1, win over San Jose State on Thursday and scored the game-winner in the Lobos’ 1-0, victory over Sacramento State on Sunday.

UNM’s two wins secured their second MPSF regular season title in the last three years. Since the MPSF did away with its postseason tournament this year, New Mexico also captured the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons.

Watson, who was also on this week’s CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week, earns the second Brine MPSF award of his career. It also marks the fifth time this season a Lobo has been named conference player of the week.

Watson is now second on the team in scoring with 18 points on seven goals and four assists. He has heated up in recent weeks, scoring three goals and two assists in the last four games.

The Lobos have one more regular season game at home on Sunday, November 14, at 1:00 p.m. against San Jose State (5-11-1, 4-6-0 MPSF). Sunday’s game is still a very important match as the Lobos are fighting for a first round bye in the NCAA Tournament and the right to host preliminary rounds of the tournament. It is also Senior Day and the last home game for Andrew Weber, Jeremy Brown, Eric Carlson, Patrick Grange, Jeff Krause and Hans Bevers.
