Lobos men’s soccer junior Lance Watson was named the Brine Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week today after scoring a pair of goals and an assist in UNM’s two wins last week. Watson broke the ice in New Mexico’s 4-1, win over Denver on Thursday, October 28, and in the Lobos’ 3-0, win against Air Force on Sunday, October 31. He also added an assist in the payback win over Denver, the only team to defeat New Mexico this season.
Watson is currently second on the team in scoring with six goals and three assists. The midfielder from Nederland, Texas, has helped lead UNM to a 13-1-1 (7-1-1 MPSF) record and the top spot in the MPSF. Watson has recorded 12 career assists, which ranks ninth on UNM’s all-time list. He also ranks ninth on the Lobos’ all-time scoring list with 46 career points. This is the first Player of the Week award for Watson in his career.
UNM hits the road this weekend for a pair of matches in California. The Lobos will take on San Jose State (5-10-1, 4-5-0 MPSF) on Thursday, November 4, at 8:00 p.m. (M.S.T.).
