ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Black team captured the annual Red-Black Fall World Series with a 12-10 Game 5 victory Thursday afternoon at Lobo Field. The Black team claimed the first two games of the series in convincing fashion, 14-1 and 8-3, but the Red team bounced back to win Game 3, 12-2, and Game 4, 10-1. In the fifth and deciding game, the Black team rallied from a 7-1 deficit in the seventh inning for the 12-10 victory. The Black team scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to take an 8-7 lead, but the Red team answered in the top of the eighth with three runs to go up 10-8. The Black team drew last blood, however, and scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the 12-10 lead.
The Red-Black Fall World Series concludes fall practice for the New Mexico baseball team. The Lobos will resume practice after Christmas break in preparation for their 2005 season opener at Arizona Feb. 4-6.
