Albuquerque, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team was chosen by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Committee to host the Central Regional Team Playoffs this Saturday, October 30 at the Lobo Tennis Club in Albuquerque, N.M. The winner of the playoff is most likely to receive a bid to the 2005 ITA National Team Indoor Championships held February 3-6 at the University of Wisconsin.
The playoff will consist of four regional teams in New Mexico, Tulsa, BYU and Colorado. These teams were selected based on its performances at last week’s ITA Central Region Championships as well as its recent fall season results. The tournament will hold two semifinal rounds and one final round. The team first to win four points in each round will advance. Here is a schedule of events:
Semifinal Round #1- No. 1 seed University of New Mexico vs. No. 4 seed University of Tulsa at 9 a.m. (MDT)
Semifinal Round #2- No. 2 seed BYU vs. No. 3 seed Colorado University at 1 p.m. (MDT)
Final Round- Winner of Semifinal Round #1 vs. Winner of Semifinal Round #2 at 6 p.m. (MDT)
Admission is free at the Lobo Tennis Club. Results will be updated after each round on UNM’s Athletic Web site: GoLobos.com.
