LARAMIE, Wyo. – The University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team fell in its season opener at Mountain West Conference rival Wyoming tonight. The Cowgirls beat the Lobos 147.5-95.5.

The Lobos took gold in five of the 13 events. Senior Becca Barra won both the one-meter and three-meter boards with scored of 261.00 and 288.60, respectively. Junior Robyn Miller claimed the 200 and 500-yard freestyle.

Getting her first win as a Lobo, freshman Tori Clarridge edged out Wyoming’s Heidi Thorson by one hundredth of a second to win the 50-yard free.

Freshman Andrea Zarins had a successful first meet as a Lobo, tying for second in the 200-yard individual medley. Juniors Whitney Thomson and Kelsey Leckovic also placed second for UNM in the 100-yard free and backstroke, respectively. UNM took second in the 200-yard free and medley relays.

The Lobos return to action tomorrow, competing at Colorado State’s Early Bird Invitational. Competition is all day tomorrow and Saturday.
