The New Mexico women’s golf team moved up three spots in second round action Saturday afternoon at the Stanford Intercollegiate and is in a tie for sixth place heading into Sunday’s final round. The Lobos shot a 7-over 287 as a team in the second round, and are 22-over (295-287–582) for the tournament. No. 9 Arizona State leads the 18-team field with a 4-over 564.
Senior Kailin Downs shot a season-best round of 69 on Saturday, putting her into a tie for 15th place with a 4-over 144 (75-69). She is eight shots off the pace set by Washington State’s Anastasia Kostina, who is 4-under with a 68-68–136.
Junior Christine Fernandez is tied for 18th with a 73-72–245 (+5). She is followed by redshirt freshman Giselle Claux, who is in a tie for 31st with a 7-over 147 (72-75), and sophomore Ashley Rollins, who is tied for 34th with an 8-over 148 (75-73). Freshman Alexandra Phelps improved by eight shots in the second round and is at 14-over after two rounds with an 81-73–154.
The third and final round of the Stanford Intercollegiate continues all day Sunday.
