The 11th-ranked New Mexico women’s golf team is in a tie for ninth place after day one at the Stanford Intercollegiate after shooting a 15-over 295. No. 9 Arizona State leads the 18-team field, which features seven ranked teams, with a 2-over 282. The tournament is being held at the par 70, 5,853-yard Stanford Golf Course.
Redshirt freshman Giselle Claux (Lima, Peru) shot her best round of the young season with a 2-over 72 (35-37), tying her for 19th place. Junior Christine Fernandez (Las Vegas, Nev.) was one shot shy of Claux, shooting a 1-over 73 (36-37) to put her in a tie for 29th place.
Senior Kailin Downs (Bend, Ore.) and sophomore Ashley Rollins (Austin, Texas) each carded a 5-over 75 to tie for 46th place. Freshman Alexandra Phelps (Albuquerque, N.M.) fired an 11-over 81 (41-40) and is in a tie for 82nd.
Round two of the Stanford Intercollegiate continues all day Saturday, while the final round is set for Sunday.
