ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Freshman Derek Lynch remains the only Lobo in the hunt for a title at the Balloon Fiesta Tournament, competing in Flight B Singles. Flight A Singles will be won by a member of the Texas A&M Aggies as the tournament’s top seed, Yvgeny Supeko, and Brett Joelson will vie for the title. In doubles, Colorado’s Marko Bundalo and Jan Zelezny will take on the College of Santa Fe’s Ivan Angula and Ricardo Omana for the crown.
Lynch advanced to the B Finals after winning his Quarterfinal match against Air Force’s Greg Ferry (6-2, 6-3) and Semifinal match over the Falcon’s Ryan White (6-4, 4-6, 6-2). He will take on Northern Arizona’s Brian Gooms tomorrow at 10 a.m.
The doubles team of freshmen Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski entered the day’s competition with the hopes of claiming the Flight A Doubles title but their chances were dashed in the semifinal round by the tournament’s top-seeded Bundalo and Zelezny with an 8-5 loss. The duo made it to the semis after battling for a 9-7 win in the Quarterfinals over Air Force’s Chris Dong and Trevor Johnson.
