CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Freshman Max Jones is showing he can compete at the college level. In Chattanooga, Tenn. at the ICY HOT/ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying Tournament today, Jones easily ousted top-seeded Matt Simpson of Arkansas in the Round of 64, 6-2, 6-3.

Tomorrow, Jones faces Georgia Tech’s Zachary Rath at 9 a.m. If Jones wins, he will face the winner of Middle Tennessee’s Greg Pollack, also a first seed, and Mississippi’s Karim Ayali at 1 p.m.

Also competing in singles action today, senior Ryan Stotland fell in the Round of 64 to Jose Orozco of Western Michigan, 7-5, 6-4. Stotland will compete with classmate David Kowalski in the Doubles Qualifying tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

In doubles, Jones teamed with classmate Kamil Pajkowski to down Louisiana-Lafayette’s Shaun Ellison and Chris Harfield (8-4) in the Round of 64. The young duo fell in next round, 8-6, to Middle Tennessee’s Marco Born and Andreas Silijestrom.
