WACO, Texas – The Lobos’ hunt for at least one title in the HEB Baylor Intercollegiates was dashed this afternoon after two losses in the singles quarterfinals and two more losses in the doubles round of 16.
In the singles Gold Flight, senior Ryan Stotland was defeated by Alabama’s Joseph Jung (6-2, 6-3) in the quarterfinals. He started the day with a three-set win (7-5, 4-6, 7-6) win over Colorado’s Marko Bundao in the round of 16. In the consolation bracket, both senior David Kowalski and freshman Max Jones also fell.
In the Green Flight, junior Eric Conklin battled UT-Arlington’s Ian Vazquez-Rowe in the quarterfinals but couldn’t hold on, falling 6-1, 0-6, 7-6.
Both the tandems of Stotland/Kowalski and Jones/Kamil Pajkowski were eliminated from the doubles Gold Flight in the round of 16. Jones and Pajkowski fell to TCU’s Jacob Martin and Andrew Ulrich, 8-6. Stotland and Kowalski, the tournament’s second seed, lost to UT-Arlington’s Niels Buksik and Sandy Farquharson, 8-5.
The Lobos return to action in different sections of the ICY HOT/ITA All-American Championships. The Pre-qualification round begins Oct. 1.
