Andrew Weber, the senior goalkeeper on the UNM men’s soccer team, has been named to the Soccer America National Team of the Week after blanking Columbia and No. 1 Indiana last weekend. Weber made nine saves in the two games, including eight against the Hoosiers in a thrilling 1-0, double-overtime win by the Lobos. Weber’s play has helped elevate New Mexico to a No. 7 national ranking in this week’s Soccer America Top-25 and NSCAA Top-25.
Weber, who has already earned the Brine Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week, becomes the second Lobo to be named to Soccer America’s Team of the Week this season. Jeff Rowland was on the team after scoring five goals in the first weekend of play.
Weber now has three shutouts on the season and is second in the MPSF and 30th in the NCAA with a 0.800 g.a.a. He is the all-time leader in goalie wins (39) and shutouts (19) at UNM.
New Mexico (6-0-0) is off to its second best start in school history and will take this weekend off before opening MPSF play against San Diego State. The match with the Aztecs (0-3-1) is set for Thursday, September 30, at 7:00 p.m. (M.D.T.) at the UNM Soccer Complex.
