New Mexico’s Maja Kovacek and Iva Gersic were ranked among top college tennis players for the 2004-05 preseason rankings edition of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released Friday, Sept. 10. Kovacek received the highest ranking for UNM at No. 41 in the nation for singles while Gersic was listed at No. 62 for singles play. The duo also claimed a preseason doubles ranking at No. 11.

In the 2003 preseason poll, Kovacek was ranked No. 97 in the nation for singles and was not listed in the preseason doubles rankings. After a stellar freshman year, Gersic is enjoying her first ITA preseason ranking in singles and doubles.

With the preseason ranking, New Mexico also boasts the highest ranked singles and doubles players in the MWC.

The next ITA national ranking will be released in January. The Lobos begin their regular season on January 21 at the Lobo Tennis Club where they will face Northern Arizona at 4 p.m.
